If you're anything like me, then saying "no" is an ish. It's a big ish, and it's a deep ish. For my people-pleasing friends out there, I've got you. We're going to take these baby steps together. Do you find yourself saying "yes" to every request, leaving you with little time for yourself? If so, it's time to master the art of saying no.

Saying no isn't selfish; it's essential for maintaining your sanity, productivity, and overall well-being. It's about prioritising your time and energy for what truly matters.
Understanding the Fear of Saying No
Many of us struggle to say no due to fear of rejection, guilt, or disappointing others. It's important to recognise that these feelings are normal but don't have to dictate your life. Remember, your wellbeing is a priority.
The Art of Setting Boundaries
Setting clear boundaries is the first step to saying no effectively. Determine what your priorities are and communicate them clearly to others. Be assertive but respectful when declining requests. I HIGHLY recommend this book by Nedra Glover Tawwab - it takes you through, step by step, teaches you why boundaries are important, how to set them, and, more importantly, how to maintain them.
Practical Tips for Saying No
Direct and Honest: It is essential to be direct and honest in your communication, especially when making decisions. By clearly stating your stance without unnecessary flappery, you promote transparency and avoid confusion.
Offer Alternatives: When faced with a decision or a problem, it will help YOU to explore various options and suggest alternatives. This not only shows the person that you're willing to be flexible, but also encourages creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
Practice Self-Care: Self-care is crucial for maintaining overall well-being and preventing burnout. Prioritising time for relaxation, hobbies, and activities that rejuvenate you is key to sustaining a healthy work-life balance.
Learn to Delegate: Delegating tasks is a skill that can help you manage your workload effectively. Recognising when to assign responsibilities to others not only lightens your burden but also fosters teamwork and trust within your environment.
Evaluate Requests Carefully: Before committing to requests or obligations, take the time to assess their impact on your time, energy, and priorities. Learning to say no when necessary is a valuable skill that allows you to focus on what truly matters to you.

Reclaiming Your Time
Once you master the art of saying no, you'll have more time for yourself. Use this newfound freedom to pursue your passions, hobbies, and self-care activities. Remember, it's okay to prioritise your needs and desires. Time management isn't just for work.
Saying no is not selfish; it's self-preservation. By setting boundaries and reclaiming your time, you're investing in your overall wellbeing and happiness.
So, my people-pleasing millennials... have you said "no" today?
